Catching up..

Here's a few pictures of my baskets and pots at the back of the house. I'm really pleased with them this time. Normally the plants look weak and feeble - this year they are surprisingly happy and strong. I suspect that the fairly constant rain has something to do with their success!

Thank you to everyone who left lovely and supportive comments on my last post.  I read everything that you wrote several times and it helped me immensely (especially when members of my family were being less kind!).  After a few days of uncertainty and roller-coaster emotions, Mark's consultant has now decided that he wants to hold back for a little before the next operation.  His rationale is that he wants Mark's face to heal as much as possible.   It's difficult because Mark had talked himself into the correct mindset for having the next operation.  Uncertainty is suprisingly exhausting!

The end of term is grinding on....  Year 8 are performing the outcomes of their Tribute Band project for the next two mornings (6 hours of live Music in two lots of three-hour sessions).  There are approaching 80 Bands/Vocal groups from the whole year group.  Every child gets up on stage and performs.  It's rather crazy - but a lovely way to end the course.  Confident pupils will work with backing tracks or live music, while less experienced pupils sing/play along with the full version of the song.  The focus is on developing performance experience plus all the personal organisation that comes with the rehearsal process.  I tend to be completely mangled by sympathetic nerves!

Friday is the day that all the 'nice' Year 7s, Year 8s and Year 9s are shipped off to the West Midland Safari Park, Drayton Manor and Alton Towers.  I normally go to Alton Towers but this year I've elected to stay at school - largely because my foot is still uncomfortable and not great at walking distances.  I've yet to find out what I'll be doing with the 'interesting' characters that have been left behind.  At least I'll be able to make a quick getaway at the end of the day.  For the first time in a very long time, Mark and I are going away for the weekend.  We are REALLY excited....!

Term ends on the 20th July... "So near and yet so far...."!

  1. I know the feeling regarding end of term! Next we have a concert, sports day AND a day trip to Llandudno - the teachers I work with are clearly mad leaving all of that for the last week!

Alton Towers is not far at all from me but I hate going, it's so busy and SO very over priced.

The rain seems to have done a lot for plants etc this year, it's so lush and green everywhere!

  2. Jan, I am just now into my second week of summer vacation. I so understand the anticipation. It is always bittersweet. I hope your husband heals quickly. I just reread my comment on your last post. I am so sorry for all the typos. I'm not for sure what happened there.

  3. All the rain has done wonders for pots and baskets this year, everything's lush. I hope Mark can get the operation over and done with soon, it's quite stressful when you've got something like that hanging over you, but I suppose he'll just have to follow the doctor's guidance, I'm sure he knows what's best. Another busy week at school. It's great that all the pupils get to perform, and it sounds like their confidence will get a boost with the way that it's done. Have a great weekend, can't wait to hear all about it.

  4. Your flowers look lovely, the rain has made everything grow, including the weeds, haha. I hope you have a lovely weekend away, it sounds as if you need it. I'm sorry I missed your earlier post otherwise would definitely have commented. It's good news that it's not cancer but I bet it's still very worrying. All your bloggy friends are thinking of you. The boy in your school sounds so brave and wonderful, bless him. Usually it's the people who have nothing to moan about that do all the moaning. Lots of love and hugs xxx

  5. I'm so envious of your beautiful flowers. Mine, it seems, are looking a bit bedraggled by the hot, hot, weather and no rain.
    Have a great weekend..Balisha

  7. Hi Jan. Beautiful photos of the pots. Lovely.

I was sorry to read about Mark and his health troubles. I am sorry, I have not been onto blogland much recently so I have missed everything :-(

However thank goodness it is not cancerous and you must try not to worry about what ifs. I know it is hard but, as a wise person once said to me when my Mum got diagnosed with breast cancer, only deal with the facts. It really helped me so I hope it does you too.

    Take care.

  8. Hi Jan....it seems I am behind on my comments, too! With the packing of boxes and the move, there aren't enough hours in the day. I do want to express how glad I am that Marks tumor is not cancerous. I'm so sorry he will need to go through more surgery. And, I hope you will soon be able to retire your crutches. Your latest post of your week end trip was so lovely. It was well deserved!
